ODU trips 10th-ranked N.C. State in baseball opener

Sam Sinnen combined with two relievers to limit 10th-ranked N.C. State to three hits as Old Dominion opened the baseball season with a 5-0 shutout of the Wolfpack at the Caravelle Resort Tournament on Friday.

The junior right-hander from Kellam High held State to two hits in five innings, and relievers Brett Smith and Nick Hartman threw one-hit ball the rest of the way. The trio struck out 10 N.C. State batters.

Junior Nick Walker went 2-for-2 with two runs, an RBI and three stolen bases to lead the Monarchs.

The Wolfpack hurt its own cause with seven walks and four errors, and State went 0-for-15 with runners on base.
