Michigan's safeties return in 2018, but improvement is needed

Note: This is story No. 13 in an ongoing, off-season series on the Michigan football team's key faces and position groups.

ANN ARBOR -- While the Michigan football team got superb play from its corners in 2017, the same can't necessarily be said about the safeties.

Starters Tyree Kinnel and Josh Metellus were both in their first full season of starting, and they had their moments. But there were also some breakdowns in man-coverage, especially in key losses.

The Wolverines surrendered 282 passing yards in its first loss at Penn State, a number exacerbated by a string of long passes into the secondary.
