Indianapolis Colts Waive Running Back Matt Jones

Related Topics: Running back, Robert Turbin

Matt Jones ran for nearly 1,000 yards in his first two NFL seasons in Washington, but they decided to cut him at they end of training camp as he would not make the 53-man regular season roster.

The Colts were in need of some depth at the running back position behind Frank Gore, Marlon Mack and Robert Turbin on the depth chart heading into this season. With a banged-up Marlon Mack and a season-ending injury to Robert Turbin, Jones made appearances in three games for the Colts rushing for 14 yards on 5 carries.

Indianapolis will head into Sunday’s game against the Jaguars with only two running backs in Gore and Mack after waiving Jones.
