MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State has had a week off to reevaluate going into the second half of the season. After a bye week with practice closed to the media, Tuesday was the first time Neu met with reporters since a 31-3 loss to Akron that dropped the Cardinals to 2-4.

What has changed after being outscored 86-6 in its two Mid-American Conference games? Well, not much.

Riley Neal (knee) and James Gilbert (thumb), the team’s two best offensive players coming into this season, are no closer to returning after sitting out the last three games. In fact, it’s not even entirely clear whether either will play in the final six games of the season.
